Creek Front Cottage -Saint Augustine, FL, United States

My wife and I stayed at this Airbnb for our thirty fifth wedding anniversary.

We were looking for somewhere quiet and near to St Augustine.  Although the cottage did meet those criteria, it fell short on many others.

First the positive; the large picturesque property sits along a secluded stretch of Stokes Creek, near the Guana River Wildlife Management Area just north of St Augustine.

The water view changes with the tides and the time of day.  Sunrise was the best time to photograph the area.

Given the largeness of the property and its coastal location we found it to be quite the haven for both migratory and wading birds.

We counted no less than twenty five species of birds, including a pair of brown thrashers nesting outside the front door.

The bedding was clean and comfortable once we discovered that the mattress in one room was overly soft while that in the other room was overly hard.

The kitchen left much to be desired.  The oven was unusable due to its unclean condition.  Pots and pans were of typical cottage style grade and unforgivably, there were no wine glasses. The barbeque grill on property was unusable.  We made do with a couple of fried eggs, had cold cuts for lunch and dinners were spent in town.

As to the overall cottage, it was quiet and cozy as expected, but was disappointingly short on some common cottage necessities.

The cottage lacked bedside alarm clocks and there was no radio, CD player or musical device of any sort.

There were no board games, magazines, or even a deck of cards to be found.

Thankfully the place offered Netflix and Amazon which kept us entertained on alternating evenings.

A fishing rod with some basic tackle would have been a nice touch but there were no such amenities.

All in all, you get what you pay for at this location,
and for us on this trip, it was all about location.
