tanager
We were surprised to see this female tanager visit the back yard.
She comes around in the spring and fall. Stays a few days, sometimes a week or so, then disappears.
The male is a striking red, although we have never seen one the back yard.
This male summer tanager we saw at Fort Desota.
All the photos below were taken in my back yard.
They eat mostly insect.
Here she is munching down on a wasp.
I am so glad I added a bird bath to my yard.

Apparently they like seeds and nuts as well.
