Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker

 

A life bird for me.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sapsuckers get their name from their habit of boring a repeating pattern of holes into a tree and letting the sap run down the trunk.

They then suck the sap and any insects attracted to the sap, with their brush-like tongues often returning again and again to the same tree.
